From the time we were little, my mom instilled in us the importance of giving back. I remember, even when we were truly struggling, we would still get a little something extra for the food bank. Even if it was just a bag of rice or the “free item” of the “buy one get one free” deal, we would take it to church or the food bank to donate.

Over the years, I’ve learned how important it is to give back intentionally. That is – to donate your time, talents and efforts to a cause you really care about. Simply put, your efforts go farther when you care because it is easier to do. The “effort” isn’t really an effort at all.

When I moved to Dallas, I started my search for a few meaningful organizations I could dedicate my time to. One of them is the Housing Crisis Center, a nonprofit that offers long term transitional housing. The cycle of homelessness truly can be a cycle and it is heartbreaking to know how many people become homeless for a lifetime because of a lack of skills and resources. HCC offers skills training, so people can become employed and truly self-sufficient! That’s what empowerment is all about!

HCC also speaks to my heart because of the Veterans Housing Partnership, which focuses solely on supporting homeless or struggling Veterans. One of my grandfathers, who came to the U.S. from Mexico, proudly, served our country in WWII in the US Navy. My other grandfather served in the US Army in WWII. Then, my father joined the US Navy immediately after high school. To me, it is vitally important to support those who have served us!Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)

So, now you know why I serve on the HCC board and here’s a glimpse into our recent fundraiser!Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download

We held the 2015 Afternoon Tea with HCC at The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in April. (I know, my blogs are a bit behind! Yikes!)

We had a tea etiquette lesson (who knew raising a pinky was a “no no”?) and learned all about petits fours!
